Security Can Sparkle
Glitter, the unsung hero of many a product, can now assist you in your brand protection strategies. Yes, we now have a glitter with security features!

Using a proprietary technology, each little flake is “stamped” microscopically with the logo or message of your choice. Seen here at 350X magnification, this 100 micron flake contains 12 micron logos (“M”).
The product performs just as any glitter would, providing the eye catching punch that can only be produced by tens of thousands of tiny little mirrors.

The glitter comes in particle sizes a small as 100 microns in a full range of colors and can be applied by traditional printing/coating methods.

The approach is so novel that most counterfeiters won’t even know to look for it. You can wow your customers while simultaneously protecting your brand name.
Polarized Technology Aiding Consumers to Police the Counterfeit Industry
Security features are powerless unless someone is policing them. In consumer products, one of the most powerful policing agents is the consumer themselves.  Get the consumer to verify the product and the battle against counterfeits is won.
So package and label designers are putting substantial efforts into designing their Anti-Counterfeiting Measures (ACMs) in a manner that can be verified by the consumer.  The marketing team then supports this effort with consumer education programs designed to teach a customer how to verify the genuine product.
The Polarized hidden image TEChnology (PTEC) from H.W. Sands Corp. lends itself very well to these “consumer policed” applications.

“Consumers that are paying a premium for a brand want to be sure they are getting what they are paying for,” explains Jeff Strahl, V.P. of H.W. Sands Corp. “By putting the anti-counterfeit measure and the decoder directly on the label, consumers gain confidence that the product is genuine. This is becoming very important in a world where counterfeit goods account for a $750 Billion dollar/year illegal trade.”

The key to the technology’s success is that it is very simple to use but to date, has never been counterfeited. The material is provided to manufacturers as a clear film that they then laminate to their substrates (tags, labels, product surfaces, etc.).  The decoder is a simple polarized lens. “The magic is all in the film,” Strahl explains, “any polarized lens will decode it; even a pair of sunglasses.” This simplicity allows a great deal of flexibility in designing an implementation strategy.
