Pigments which change from colored to colorless at a predetermined temperature These special effect pigments allow for a visual response to changes in temperature. The pigments are composed of micro capsules that change color reversibly. When the temperature is raised to a specified temperature the pigment goes from colored to colorless. The pigment returns to the original color as it cools down. The particle size of the thermochromic pigment for all products is <6 microns (97%). The color and temperature are selected by the user. Thermochromic materials are classified by three categories: The Thermochromic materials are classified by three categories: A. Binary Thermochromes - These materials have only two phases: colored and colorless (on or off). They can be adjusted to activate by one degree increments ranging from -10o to +60oC. B. Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Thermochromes - Made famous by the "Mood Rings" of the 70's. These materials run a color gambit when changing. They activate within a 7 degree bandwidth of change illustrated with five transition stages (clear, red, green, blue, clear). They can be adjusted to trigger within a temperature ranging from 0oC - 50oC. C. High Temp. Irreversible Thermochromes - Commonly used as "tattle tale" tags to identify the maximum temperature exposed during shipment. These materials can be adjusted to trigger irreversibly in a wide range of temperatures. Can't find what you're looking for? Please contact our Customer Satisfaction Team for assistance.
